I had received the Super 8 camera and I loved the camera ever since I put my hands on it. I thought it was so cool that I got to work with such a vintage camera and see how much technology has changed, camera wise. I knew that I had to record as much as I could with it, but try and make it really meaningful. Before I started filming, my anticipations were to capture my mom in this amazing essence and show how great her vibes are. I was nervous that I was not going to be able to film as much as I wanted, but I was also excited to be filming anything at all. I had a vision of shooting my mom in a great light and her as a person.
I ended up shooting small shots of my mom when she was laughing or just being herself. Taking care of my siblings and me, just doing her small jobs as a mom. I did not really film that much because my mom worked a lot so it was just me and my siblings really, but I got any video of her that I could. I knew that I got a good shot because the energy was just there, everything just felt right.
Now I have finished, I wish I could do it all over again. It is definitely things I could have improved on during the time I had with filming, but I’m glad I was able to do it at all. I feel that I am a more improved filmmaker because I actually had a purpose and meaning behind my work. I was not just doing it for fun, but to shine light on something. My huge takeaway is that time is key to anything you do! Especially if you love what you do.
